Product Name: S&B Intake (Dry Disposable Filter) - 1999-2007 (Classic) Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra (GAS TRUCKS) Manufacturer: S&B Manufacturer Part #: 75-5157D Thoroughbred Diesel Part #: SAB75-5157D Fitment Notes: 1999-2007 (Classic) Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra
Maximum Performance.
Our cold air intake for the 1999-2007 Silverado/Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon and Cadillac Escalade was engineered to minimize air restriction and flows better than stock. This kit comes with a fully enclosed airbox that protects the filter from dirt and keeps out engine heat.
New Snap In Lid Design
Our new snap-In lid design requires no screws to secure it to the box. This makes installation and inspection quick and easy. Our silicone edge trim provides a protective seal against unwanted, power-robbing engine heat and debris. This kit comes with a massive, highly-efficient air filter which results in better performance and protects your engine. Available in either 8-layer Cotton Cleanable or Dry Extendable media.
Less Restriction. More Airflow.
The Intake Tube has minimal bends as it connects to the turbo inlet. It is positioned in one clean line with minimum obstructions from the turbo inlet to the intake box and air filter. This results in a decrease in restriction compared to stock.
Premium Silicone Components
The air filter, coupler, and lid seal are all made with silicone. Silicone is a premium rubber that will seal better and last longer. It handles temperatures as high as 400F without cracking or tearing and won't deteriorate over time.
No Check Engine Lights.
S&B devotes a huge amount of resources to engineer our intakes that allow your engine to run properly with stock calibration or enhanced tuning. An injection molded MAF plate in conjunction with a foam MAF sensor gasket ensures a true OE seal to the sensor.
S&B Cold Air Intake Kit Features:
The installation process for an S&B Intake Kit is extremely straight forward and can usually be completed in less than 30 minutes using only standard tools.
Installing an S&B Intake Kit or Filter will not void your vehicle's warranty as long as you follow the proper procedures found in the Vehicle, your Warranty is Safe. It is illegal for a dealership to void your warranty based solely on the fact that you have installed an aftermarket product. Your rights are protected by the Consumer Product Warranties Law, often referred to as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
The simple answer is yes. By lowering the restriction level versus stock, the S&B Intake allows the engine to work more efficiently which will improve fuel economy. According to the Department of Energy, a dirty air filter will have an adverse affect on fuel economy. Fueleconomy.gov states that replacing a clogged air filter can improve your car's gas mileage by as much as 10 percent. (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/maintain.shtml) The reason a clean filter improves fuel economy is because it is less restrictive than a dirty filter, so the engine works less to consume the air it needs. This S&B Intake Kit is substantially less restrictive than the OE induction system with a clean filter installed thus allowing the engine to breathe even easier which results in better fuel economy. S&B does not make a specific claim with regards to fuel economy because there are too many factors that can affect your miles per gallon.
The cleaning interval will depend on your driving conditions. We recommend that you inspect your filter every oil change or 6,000 miles. If debris has built up on your filter equal to the height of the wire mesh, your filter should be cleaned and oiled. Servicing your filter more frequently will result in better performance. At a minimum, the air filter should be properly serviced using a Precision Cleaning & Oiling Kit every 12,000 miles.
No! In fact, many OE paper filters contain oil in order to improve the efficiency of the filter. S&B uses robotics to precisely apply the correct amount of oil at the factory and provides consumers with the Precision Cleaning & Oiling Kit to properly service the filter in the field. Oil could potentially damage the mass air sensor only if it is over-applied.
When you think about cold air intakes, there are two main components to consider. First is air filtration. When comparing oiled filters to dry filters the oiled will always filter out more particulate than the dry filter will. The added oil allows the cotton fibers in the filter element to trap more particulate matter as the air passes through it. The downfall is that in dusty environments the oil filters tend to get dirty quicker than the dry filter will.
The second component to consider on a cold air intake is performance, or how much air flow it allows. From the tests that we have seen, there is no difference in air flow between an oiled filter or a dry filter, if they are both clean. However, as we stated before the oiled filter will catch more particulate and become dirty quicker than the dry filter will. As a filter becomes dirtier, its performance decreases due to excess particulate matter restricting the air flow. Therefore, a dry filter will provide more performance over a longer period of time than an oiled filter will.
For daily driven trucks we recommend oiled filters, unless the truck is driven in an extremely dusty environment. We feel that the extra filtration power added by the oil is worth sacrificing the 1 or 2 extra horsepower you might get from using a dry filter.
