VP44 1 Year

Thoroughbred Diesel offers replacement Bosch Vp44 Fuel Injection Pumps that have been rebuilt by certified Bosch tech and have been tested on a test stand for 4hrs before the pump is sent to you. Bosch VP 44 diesel pumps are also upgraded with all the latest upgrades required by Bosch. Our VP44 injection pumps come with a 1yr unlimited mileage warranty. If you are placing performance parts on your truck it is highly recommended that you use a performance lift pump such as the Airdog fuel system or Fass Fuel Systems. An Airdog or Fass Fuel System will supply the Injection pump with the fuel pressure that is need no matter what performance upgrades you have on your truck. We also offer several different gauge options from Autometer and Isspro to monitor your fuel pressure so you know when your lift pump is going out and can fix the problem before you lose your Injection Pump. The cheapest way to monitor your fuel pressure would be BD's early warning light. Preventing problems before they occur is the best way to take care of your truck.

What is the difference between the 12-month and 24-month VP44 pumps?

Both VP44 pumps are built to provide the same fit, function, and performance. From the customer's perspective, there is no noticeable difference in how the pumps install, operate, or perform.

The primary difference is the PSG (Pump Mounted Driver/ECM) used during the remanufacturing process and the warranty coverage provided with the pump.

  • 12-Month VP44: Includes a 12-month warranty and utilizes a remanufactured/reconditioned PSG that has been tested to meet operating specifications.
  • 24-Month VP44: Includes a 24-month warranty and utilizes a new PSG, allowing us to provide the longer warranty period.

In normal operation, customers should not expect a difference in power, drivability, fitment, or performance between the two pumps. The 24-month option is primarily for customers who want the additional warranty coverage and the added assurance of a new PSG.

Fleece PowerFLo Lift Pump

No more noisy lift pumps, cutting holes in your fuel tank, or quarter tank issues. Fleece drop-in lift pump allows for silent operation, utilizes the factory connections for an easy installation and its active fill bucket technology eliminates the need for a draw straw or tank sump.

The PowerFlo Lift Pump operates with two OEM quality gerotor pumps that have surpassed 12,000 hours of durability testing and together flow 170 GPH @ 15 psi, making the PowerFlo Lift Pump capable of supporting 800+ rwhp.

  • How do I tell what VP44 I have?

    Thoroughbred Diesel | 8/10/2026

To identify your Bosch VP44 injection pump, locate the metal identification tag on the side of the pump body facing the driver's fender. Because the tag is hard to see while mounted, use a flashlight and an inspection mirror to read the long Bosch part number starting with 047 and the specific 3-digit variant suffix.

  • What is the VP44 death code?

    Thoroughbred Diesel | 8/10/2026

For 1998.5–2002 Dodge Ram trucks equipped with the 5.9L 24-valve Cummins diesel, **P0216** (Fuel Injection Timing Control Circuit) is commonly considered the Bosch VP44 injection pump’s primary “death code.” However, **P1688** (Internal Injection Pump Failure) is an even stronger indication that the pump has failed completely.

Here's a simple way to check your VP44:

  • What is the lifespan of a VP44 pump?

    Thoroughbred Diesel | 8/10/2026

With proper fuel pressure and clean filtration, a Bosch VP44 injection pump typically lasts 200,000 to 300,000 miles. However, if the stock lift pump fails or fuel pressure drops below 10–14 psi, the lifespan can plummet drastically, with many untreated units failing prematurely between 80,000 and 150,000 miles.

    Simple VP44 fix, hopefully:

  • What are the critical warning signs & causes?

    Thoroughbred Diesel | 8/10/2026

    Critical Warning Signs & Causes:

    • Low Lift Pump Pressure - Failing stock lift pumps starve the VP44 of cooling and lubricating fuel, which is the primary cause of premature failure.

    • Wire Tapping Warning - Splicing or tapping into the pump's lead wire for performance programmers can void the manufacturer warranty if it leads to thermal rotor seizure.

    • Serial Number Check -Owners of 1998.5–1999 6-speed Non-HO manual trucks must verify their engine serial number before ordering to ensure correct pump calibration.

  • What are the common VP44 failure codes?

    Thoroughbred Diesel | 8/10/2026

    Common Failure Codes:

    • P0216: Injection timing failure (known as the "code of death")
    • P1688: Internal electronic failure of the pump control module (PSG)
    • P1689: No communication between ECM and injection pump.
