On 89-02 Cummins trucks, the OEM dowel pin right behind the timing cover can vibrate loose over time. When this pin drops down into the timing gears, it causes catastrophic failure, and could leave you stranded and your truck down.

1989-1998 will require a gasket, 1998.5 and up you can use RTV silicone.
