Transmission Coolant Thermal Bypass Valve

On certain Ford Super Duty models equipped with the 10R140 or 10R100 transmission, the OEM oil-to-water transmission cooler is connected to a valve assembly that limits coolant flow into the cooler. The solenoid inside the factory valve is energized as soon as the ignition is turned on, cutting off coolant flow into the transmission cooler completely and not opening until the transmission fluid temperature reaches around 210°F. Even when the factory valve is fully open, its small fluid-passing section still restricts coolant flow rate, limiting the cooler's effectiveness.
