This is a brand-new replacement transfer case pump for GM transfer cases with a 49-spline mainshaft; NP261HD, NP263HD, NP261XHD and NP263XHD.
The transfer case pump can be damaged from operating the vehicle with low or no lubrication from leaky seals, damaged drain plug or the dreaded “pump rub” issue. If you are rebuilding a transfer case always be sure to check the pump for damage from heat or wear. If the metal is discolored from heat damage or if there are scrapes and/or gouges in the metal deep enough to snag a fingernail it is best to replace the pump rather than hope it works. Worn gears or pump housing can lead to repeat transfer case failure is not addressed.
NOTE: Make sure the pickup tube O-ring seal is in place before installing the pickup tube into the pump during transfer case reassembly. Damage from lack of lubrication can occur if the tube is missing as the pump will draw in air as well as transfer case fluid. Also, be sure to verify the mainshaft spline count on HD model transfer cases to make sure you have the correct transfer case pump it could be 38-spline or 49-spline.
