The connector tubes play a critical role in your engine's fuel system, as they are responsible for delivering high-pressure fuel from the injector lines to the injectors. Just like injectors, connector tubes are subject to wear over time due to constant exposure to high-pressure fuel. For this reason, it is strongly recommended to replace all six connector tubes whenever you replace your injectors to ensure optimal performance and prevent future issues.

Key Functions of Connector Tubes:

1. High-Pressure Connection:
   The spherical end of the connector tube, in combination with the injector body's inlet passage, forms a high-pressure seal. Any leaks at this connection can lead to increased injector return volume, hard starting, reduced fuel efficiency, and other performance problems.
2. Edge Filter Protection:
   The connector tube's injection line end features an edge filter, which serves as a protective barrier. This filter prevents larger contaminants from reaching the injector, helping to maintain its integrity and prolonging its operational life.

Edge Filter Details:

• Critical Protection: Common rail injectors have extremely tight internal clearance tolerances, typically in the range of 2-3 microns (for comparison, a human hair is about 60 microns thick). Standard fuel filters in common rail engines have a 5-micron rating, leaving the connector tube's edge filter as the final line of defense against larger contaminants. The edge filter captures particles 30 microns and larger, which could otherwise cause injector damage or premature failure.
• Wear Over Time: With extended use, the edge filter can degrade, allowing contaminants larger than 30 microns to bypass the filter and reach the injector. These contaminants can significantly reduce the injector's lifespan.
