Many stock replacement parts such as turbos, injectors, injection pumps, and high pressure oil pumps have a core charge that is associated with the new replacement part. You must return the old part to receive a refund on the core charge.

In some cases, the core is not reusable, such as in the event of a cracked case, at which point the core deposit would not be credited as the core component is not reusable.
Cores that have been disassembled and/or have missing and/or damaged major components will not receive full core credit.
Returned cores must be on a "like-for-like" basis, meaning that the returned core has the exact same fitment as the remanufactured component that was purchased. If the core is not "like-for-like," your core may not be eligible for return/credit.
You are responsible for core return shipping cost.

If you plan on returning your core you have two options.

Thoroughbred Diesel offers defer the upfront core charge when purchasing via credit card payment.

OPTION 1: You can accept the core charge, which means you will be charged for the part AND the core at time of purchase. You still have the option to send it back, and if you do, the core will be refunded back on the card used, presuming the core meets core criteria and the core is returned within 30 days from the time your order is received. If you return your core after 30 days you may refer to the Core Charge Timeline below as to how you will be refunded.

Core Charge Timeline

If the core is returned after 30 days, 90% of the core will be refunded.
If the core is returned after 60 days, 70% of the core will be refunded.
If the core is returned after 90 days, 50% of the core will be refunded.
After 6 months cores will be accepted at Thoroughbred’s discretion.

OPTION 2: You can defer the core charge. If you defer, you will not be charged for the core at the time of purchase. You will have 21 days from the time your order is received to send the core back. If the core is not received within the 21 days, your credit card will be charged for the core amount on your order. If you return your core after 21 days, you may refer to the Core Charge Timeline below as to how you will be refunded. When Core deferral (Pay Core Charge Later) is limited to payment by credit card only. ***When using PayPal or Affirm as your method of payment “Core Deferral (Pay Core Charge Later)” is not available. The core must be paid at time of purchase. ***

Core Charge Timeline

Core Return Procedure

Please keep all original packaging of your new item to be used for the core return.
Drain all fluids: oil, fuel, etc. out of the core before it is returned.
Place any plastic plugs or caps received on the new item back onto the core.
To insure UPS, Fed Ex, or USPS will not reject the package due to fuel or oil leakage, please wrap the core in a plastic garbage bag.
Place core inside the box.
If core return paperwork was inside the box, please complete the form and send back with the core.

2011-2012

6.7 Powerstrokes Came stock from Ford with a 8-bolt flexplate and torque converter that are no longer manufactured. All 6.7 Powerstroke balanced assemblies from Choate Engineering come with the updated 6-bolt flexplate from 2013+ and require the customer to update the torque converter or purchase one from us directly.

2017+

6.7 Powerstrokes have a larger “Hole Diameter” for the motor mounts and bolts.

By buying you agree to have the engine core ready for pickup and return to us within 30 days of receiving the engine. Failure to do so will void your warranty.

Core will be inspected and must meet our specifications to deem it a good usable core. Mainline and crank must meet our specs as well. The engine will be shipped to Choate Engineering Performance in shrink wrap on a non returnable wooden pallet & the appropriate core charge due.

Once inspected appropriate core fees will be kept and balance remaining will be refunded promptly in the form of a check.

We require a like for like core- meaning if we send you a long block we require everything from your core long block to be usable and machinable.

We will need the year, make, model and vin number to make sure you are buying the correct engine before we ship. We must know if the transmission is manual or automatic as this effects prices and usability. *if transmission is manual, we suggest purchasing a flywheel so we can balance it to a new flywheel. If customers flywheel is used the engine will be balanced to a stock flywheel.*

Our Built-In-House Heads -Magnuflux and pressure test heads, Grind Valves, New induction hardened seats, All New Valve Guides, Install new valve seals, Test spring tension, New Freeze plugs, New Injector Cups.
Head Studs included in our Daily Driver build, New Head Gaskets
Full CNC blue print machining, (bore, deck, hone and line honed) - The Cylinder bores are blue print bored to a true 90 degrees from the crankshaft center line, prior to being diamond honed to within .0002â€³ for precise piston to cylinder bore clearances. We main bore and line hone the crankshaft which is honed to precisely align the crankshaft in the engine block. We bore the block back to the crankshaft center line and hone the block to RA13 finish. The piston diameter measured to the nearest .0001â€³ matched to cylinder bores. The Cylinder block is surfaced to a finish of RA30 or lower, which meets the factory specification in both flatness and smoothness for the block to head sealing surface. This is mandatory for proper sealing of a MLS Gasket.
Connecting Rods, New Damper and Flexplate for Automatic transmission. All Manual will be charged the appropriate charges and will be balanced to a stock flywheel we have in stock or you will need to send in your Aftermarket in first.
Check both wrist pin and crank pin to rod clearances
New upgraded Pistons .10- .30â€³ over - New pistons, rings, Pin retainers weight matched prior to crank balancing
New OE Lifters, Lifter Guides, OE Crank Flange Bolts, updated 9.800 OE Pushrods
Crankshaft - Balanced with the Rotational assembly checked for run-out inspected for fatigue. Crankshaft is Polished and ground to .0005 concentricity or less
