Do I need the air compressor or is it optional?

Yes if you do not have on board air.
With either of these BD exhaust brakes do I need to modify anything with my automatic transmission to get it to lock up like with Banks SmartLock? Can I still use over-drive when using this? And last with either the bolt on to the exhaust flange or inline system, how does it deal with oversize exhaust pipes?

Some models have trans controllers included. You can still use overdrive and if you have oversized exhaust you will need a different mounting group. Give us a call if you need a specific part number for your application
