What
is an exhaust brake?
Exhaust brakes fit in the exhaust system, downstream from the
turbocharger, and provide braking assistance by creating engine
backpressure from the vehicle's exhaust. The resulting backpressure
safely slows the vehicle without damaging the engine and prevents
wear on the service brakes. Most importantly, backpressure equals
braking power. Controlling the amount of backpressure is what
makes a good exhaust brake.
Introducing
the Pacbrake PRXB
Pacbrake’s flagship product, the PRXB (pressure regulated
exhaust brake), is the unquestioned leader in the supplemental
brake industry. The patented PRXB design delivers the strongest
braking horsepower, greatest speed reductions and shortest stopping
distances possible without the use of service brakes. It maintains
optimum retarding performance by maximizing the exhaust backpressure
throughout the entire RPM range. Unlike a typical exhaust brake,
which requires high RPMs to work properly, the PRXB delivers
constant exhaust pressure (braking) as early as 1200 RPM through
to the maximum allowable RPM.
Why
choose Pacbrake's PRXB?
The problem with exhaust brakes in the past is that as the vehicle
slows down, the RPMs drop and you lose backpressure - resulting
in a loss of braking power. Pacbrake's PRXB addresses this ver
issue with a patented waste-gate valve that is designed to close
as the engine RPMs begin to drop. The closing of this valve
will maintain engine backpressure and therefore provide constant
braking power, especially at the lower to mid-range RPMs where
you need it the most.
Pacbrake’s
PRXB Exhaust Brake has revolutionized the braking
industry. Adapted for a variety of diesel vehicle applications,
the PRXB provides the strongest braking horsepower, greatest
speed reductions and shortest stopping distances possible without
the use of conventional brakes.
Exhaust
Brakes for Diesel Trucks
If you've ever traveled downhill with a heavy load, you may
have asked yourself "Will I be avle to slow down: Will
my brakes hold?" Not only can hills overpower your truck's
braking system, they constantly contribute to heavy wear on
your brake pads. Over time, this unnecessary wear decreases
your brake's effectiveness and can leave you without the brake
power you need while traveling on your next trip. A supplemental
braking system, such as an exhaust brake, will alleviate any
doubt you have of your truck's braking avilities.
Steep

The PRXB delivers the strongest braking horsepower, greatest
speed reductions and shortest stopping distances possible without
the use of service brakes. Unlik a typical exhaust brake which
reuires high engine RPMs to work properly, the patented PRXB
delivers constant exhaust backpressure (braking) as early as
1200 RPM through to the highest allowable RPM. Not only does
the PRXB provide increased performance, it offers peace of mind
with technology that protects from engine overpressure potential.
WHAT’S
SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE PRXB?
In order to have consistent and effective braking
over the entire RPM range, it is important (and necessary) to
maintain constant backpressure. To achieve this, Pacbrake’s
patented design has incorporated an additional waste gate on
the butterfly valve to regulate the amount of exhaust flow that
is being passed through. The flow is controlled by a spring-loaded
arm, whose pressure rating and location are key factors in the
functionality of the PRXB. Located outside of the housing and
away from the heat, the spring is able to maintain its strength
and durability for years of proper and precise braking performance.

Brake Maintenance with Superlube
Extend the life of your exhaust brake with Pacbrake’s
Superlube, a multi-purpose, heat resistant, synthetic lubricant
that penetrates and protects your exhaust brake. Using Superlube
on your exhaust brake reduces friction and wear, helps prevent
rust and corrosion and protects against binding or sticking.
This high quality lubricant can also be used for household,
hobby, fishing, marine, hunting and automotive applications.
With the engine off, apply a sufficient amount (4-5 drops) to
the highlighted locations shown on the above diagram. Once all
the points have been lubricated, cycle the exhaust brake manually
or electronically a few times to work the lubricant in. These
steps will ensure that the Pacbrake continues to function properly.

PACBRAKE'S
SWITCH-PAC
Designed specially for manual transmission vehicles, Pacbrake’s
Switch-Pac is a shifter-mounted ON/OFF switch. The convenient
fingertip control location provides easy access for exhaust
brake activation. The Switch-Pac can operate not only your vehicle's
exhaust brake, but other vehicle accessories such as Pacbrake's
air horns.
ECM
BYPASS SWITCH
Vehicles with an engine ECU (electronic control unit) experience
a 2½ second delay when activating their exhaust brake
circuit. Pacbrake’s ECM Bypass kit eliminates this delay
with bypassing the computer system using a mechanical throttle
switch mounted on the accelerator linkage.
