“What
can I do to get better fuel economy from my truck?”
This is a question we hear countless times a day here at Thoroughbred
Diesel. Fortunately, there is any easy answer! Basically there
are three options for today’s modern diesel trucks;
add a programmer (or module), install an air-intake system
or replace your stock exhaust. These are the “big three”
upgrades recommended to increase efficiency and ultimately,
increase fuel economy. Below are a few links to these three
products to determine what will work best for your truck and
wallet!
Changing
your trucks tuning is by far going be your biggest bang for
your buck when looking to increase the fuel economy of your
truck. This is a plug in and go kind of option.
Replacing
your stock truck exhaust will help your truck “breathe”
better and decrease your Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGT’s).
This will increase your trucks efficiency and is always recommended
when installing a programmer. An exhaust install will require
about two hours but is well worth the money considering how
much you will save at the pump!
Air
intakes will help your turbo spool up quicker and help decrease
your Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGT’s). Quicker turbo
spool up means less bottom end lag and again, increased efficiency.
This option will require about an hour to install but again,
it is worth the time if you want to beat rising fuel costs.
If you
are looking to increase the fuel economy of your diesel truck,
you should start with these three product lines. Each truck
is different and your results will vary. However, if your
truck is loaded or unloaded, towing or not, these products
will help save you money and who doesn’t want that!
