How To Measure Your Truck Bed

To always ensure the quality fit for your new tonneau cover one must measure the truck they are wishing to purchase a cover for. In order to ensure you’re purchasing the correct size for your tonneau cover or bed rails, you’ll want to make sure that your bed is being measured correctly.  The most common truck bed sizes are 5.5 foot, 6.5 foot or 8 foot. Many truck accessories such as bed covers, liners, and some nerf bars require information of your specific truck measurements. This will ensure a proper fit. This isn't always obvious especially if the truck was purchased second-hand. This is the case for many diesel trucks.

Follow these easy to follow instructions to find the length of your diesel truck bed:

  1. Place your measuring tape at the bulkhead (near the cab) of your truck bed. Make sure not to measure the bulkhead itself but the inside of the truck bed itself.
  2. Move along your bed rail, extending the measuring tape to the inside of the top of your tailgate. This will be done easiest with the tailgate closed.
  3. Divide your number of inches by 12 to determine your truck bed in feet. Your bed length is the number of feet and residual inches. E.g. 6'5" (a common size for trucks).
    • Note: Some manufacturers will round to the nearest inch. If you are a little bit off it isn't a big deal. Usually length is all that is needed to select the proper truck bed cover but you may need to know additionally if your truck is equipped step sides, ram boxes or bed rails as well for a proper fit.
