Always wanted a filter you could just throw away without sacrificing performance? S&B's new Dry Filter is the answer! Comparable Airflow to our Cotton Filters with the same Great Protection. Last for up to 30,000 miles of highway driving. Extend the life of the filter using compressed air. Frequently Asked Questions: How often do I need to replace an S&B Dry Filter? The frequency you replace your S&B Dry Disposable Air Filter will depend on the conditions in which you drive. As a rule, we recommend that you replace your filter at a minimum of every 12,000-15,000 miles. The Filter should be inspected during oil changes and regular service intervals. If you live in extreme dusty climates or frequently drive off road, we recommend that you replace your filter on a more frequent basis. Can I clean an S&B Dry Disposable Filter? Ultimately, the filter is disposable; however, the life of a filter can be significantly extended under most conditions by lightly tapping the filter top on a hard surface and using low-pressure compressed air (100 psi maximum) from the inside out to dislodge any dirt or debris from the filter pleats. Under NO circumstances should this filter be washed, as this will damage the filter media. Will cleaning a Dry Filter with compressed air damage to the filter? No. We have tested this process in our ISO 5011 Test Lab and test results show that capacity of the filter was improved without damaging the efficiency. Visit www.sbfilters.com/dryfilter to see test results of a filter cleaned with compressed air. Will cleaning a Dry Filter with compressed air help the performance of the filter? While using compressed air to clean out an S&B Dry Filter will not return the filter to factory condition, it will extend the life of the filter and improve its airflow. Visit www.sbfilters.com/dryfilter for see the test results supporting this claim. Can I apply oil to an S&B Dry Filter? Oil should not be applied to S&B's Dry Filter. How does an S&B Dry Filter compare to an S&B Cotton Gauze Filter? It took years of R&D, but our Dry Filters actually have comparable airflow rates to our cotton gauze filters while still providing excellent filtration. Don't take our word for it, check out the ISO 5011 Test Results comparing the two types of filters. Should I buy an S&B Dry Filter or Cleanable Cotton Filter? Since you are not sacrificing performance with either choice, the decision comes down to whether you would rather throw away the filter or clean it. What does an S&B Dry Filter cost? All of S&B's Dry Filters for an S&B Intake Kit cost $45 while the same filter in Cotton is only $55. How does S&B's Dry Filter compare to AFE and AEM's? It is fairly easy to make a filter that has good flow characteristics; however, the real trick is stopping the dirt while improving the airflow. This is what separates S&B's New Dry Filter from AFE & AEM equivalent. In our opinion, AFE and AEM's "cleanable" claim comes at a price, which is poor filtration. While the life of S&B's Dry Filter can be extended using compressed air, it should be ultimately discarded instead of cleaned.

Reviews

  • Are S&B Intake Kits Easy To Install?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

The installation process for an S&B Intake Kit is extremely straight forward and can usually be completed in less than 30 minutes using only standard tools.

  • Will An S&B Intake Kit Or Filter Void My Warranty?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

Installing an S&B Intake Kit or Filter will not void your vehicle's warranty as long as you follow the proper procedures found in the Vehicle, your Warranty is Safe. It is illegal for a dealership to void your warranty based solely on the fact that you have installed an aftermarket product. Your rights are protected by the Consumer Product Warranties Law, often referred to as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

  • Will An S&B Filter Or Intake Kit Improve My Fuel Economy?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

The simple answer is yes. By lowering the restriction level versus stock, the S&B Intake allows the engine to work more efficiently which will improve fuel economy. According to the Department of Energy, a dirty air filter will have an adverse affect on fuel economy. Fueleconomy.gov states that replacing a clogged air filter can improve your car's gas mileage by as much as 10 percent. (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/maintain.shtml) The reason a clean filter improves fuel economy is because it is less restrictive than a dirty filter, so the engine works less to consume the air it needs. This S&B Intake Kit is substantially less restrictive than the OE induction system with a clean filter installed thus allowing the engine to breathe even easier which results in better fuel economy. S&B does not make a specific claim with regards to fuel economy because there are too many factors that can affect your miles per gallon.

  • How Often Should I Service (Clean) My Filter?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

The cleaning interval will depend on your driving conditions. We recommend that you inspect your filter every oil change or 6,000 miles. If debris has built up on your filter equal to the height of the wire mesh, your filter should be cleaned and oiled. Servicing your filter more frequently will result in better performance. At a minimum, the air filter should be properly serviced using a Precision Cleaning & Oiling Kit every 12,000 miles.

  • Will The Oil On The Filter Damage My Vehicle's Mass Air Sensor?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

No! In fact, many OE paper filters contain oil in order to improve the efficiency of the filter. S&B uses robotics to precisely apply the correct amount of oil at the factory and provides consumers with the Precision Cleaning & Oiling Kit to properly service the filter in the field. Oil could potentially damage the mass air sensor only if it is over-applied.

  • Do I Want An Oiled Or Dry Cold Air Intake System?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

When you think about cold air intakes, there are two main components to consider. First is air filtration. When comparing oiled filters to dry filters the oiled will always filter out more particulate than the dry filter will. The added oil allows the cotton fibers in the filter element to trap more particulate matter as the air passes through it. The downfall is that in dusty environments the oil filters tend to get dirty quicker than the dry filter will.

The second component to consider on a cold air intake is performance, or how much air flow it allows. From the tests that we have seen, there is no difference in air flow between an oiled filter or a dry filter, if they are both clean. However, as we stated before the oiled filter will catch more particulate and become dirty quicker than the dry filter will. As a filter becomes dirtier, its performance decreases due to excess particulate matter restricting the air flow. Therefore, a dry filter will provide more performance over a longer period of time than an oiled filter will.

For daily driven trucks we recommend oiled filters, unless the truck is driven in an extremely dusty environment. We feel that the extra filtration power added by the oil is worth sacrificing the 1 or 2 extra horsepower you might get from using a dry filter.
